Branded Prompts

Branded prompts are a fundamentally different type of prompt from what Gauge has traditionally tracked. Non-branded prompts measure visibility — how often your brand gets mentioned when an AI is asked about a category. For example, “What are the best generative engine optimization platforms?” measures how often Gauge appears unprompted. Visibility is the core KPI there. Branded prompts flip that model. Instead of seeing if AI thinks to mention your brand, you’re giving AI a direct question about your brand and measuring what it says. A prompt like “How does Gauge help companies do AI SEO?” will always return 100% visibility — of course the model mentions Gauge. The question isn’t whether you appear, it’s what the AI actually says about you.

How Branded Prompts Work in Gauge

Because branded prompts behave differently from non-branded prompts, they’re treated differently in the product. Branded prompts are excluded by default from the Rankings page and Citations view, so they don’t skew your visibility metrics. Creating a branded prompt works the same way as any other prompt. When adding a prompt, toggle the Branded button and it will be saved and tracked as a branded prompt. Gauge’s agent is also aware of the distinction — when you create prompts through the agent, it will generate both branded and non-branded prompts automatically.

Why Branded Prompts Matter

Branded prompts are the foundation of Sentiment Analysis. By asking AI directly about your product, you get a clear picture of the lens AI takes when buyers are researching you — what it emphasizes, what it gets wrong, and how it frames your positioning. This data is a direct input to your content roadmap. If AI is consistently describing your brand in a way that doesn’t match how you want to be positioned, branded prompts surface exactly where that gap is and give you the information to close it.
