A skill is a saved set of instructions for a task your team repeats, such as a weekly competitor report or a page-refresh checklist. Ask Gauge can use a skill automatically when your request matches it, or you can choose one in chat. Skills belong to your organization, so everyone on your team can use and edit them. Memory tells Gauge about your company. A skill tells Gauge how to do one specific job. Skills live under Settings → Skills.

Create a skill

If your organization has no skills yet, click Ask Gauge can create a skill for you. Ask Gauge asks:
  • What request should trigger the skill
  • What problem and goal it addresses
  • How the workflow should run
It then writes the skill, saves it, and shows you the result. To write one yourself:
1

Add a skill

Go to Settings → Skills and click the + tile.
2

Name it

Enter a name and click Create. Gauge gives the skill a / command based on its name, such as /weekly-report.
3

Write the instructions

Fill in Use when with the requests that should trigger the skill. Then write the steps in the editor below.
Describe the goal and context, not only the steps. Ask Gauge pulls current numbers with its normal tools when it runs the skill, so you don’t need to paste data in.

Edit or delete a skill

Select a skill under Settings → Skills to open it.
  • Name: click the name in the header to rename it.
  • Use when: edit the field below the name. Ask Gauge reads this to decide when to use the skill.
  • Instructions: edit the text in the editor, or click Ask Gauge to update skill and describe the change.
  • Delete: open the … menu and choose Delete skill. This removes the skill and its / command for everyone.
You can also ask Ask Gauge in any chat to create, update, or rename a skill.

Use a skill in chat

  • Type / in the Ask Gauge message box to see your skills. Keep typing to filter, then select one.
  • Or click the skill icon in the message box (Choose a skill).
  • Select View skills in the menu to open Settings → Skills.
You don’t have to choose a skill. When a request matches a skill’s Use when text, Ask Gauge uses it on its own.
