# MCP tool list

> Explore Gauge MCP tools for visibility, prompts, content, reporting, and organization workflows.

Connect an AI client using the [Gauge MCP setup guide](/help/mcp.md), then ask it to use these tools in natural language. Your client receives each tool's input schema from the server.

Available tools depend on your organization's connected integrations. Reporting tools read data; management, content, and publishing tools can make changes on your behalf.

## Organization and visibility

| Tool | What it does |
| - | - |
| `list_categories` | Find your organization's categories and IDs for reporting. |
| `list_competitors` | List tracked competitors. |
| `get_usage_limits` | Check your organization's usage limits. |
| `list_client_organizations` | List linked client organizations; available to agency accounts. |
| `get_category_overview` | Get a category's performance overview. |
| `get_performance_over_time` | Track performance over a date range. |
| `get_brand_visibility_over_time` | Track brand visibility over time. |
| `search_brand_by_name` | Find a brand by name. |

## Topics, prompts, and answers

| Tool | What it does |
| - | - |
| `list_topics` | Browse tracked topics. |
| `get_topic_detail` | Read a topic's details. |
| `get_topic_keywords` | Read a topic's keywords. |
| `get_prompts` | Browse tracked prompts. |
| `get_prompt_answers` | Retrieve answers for a prompt. |
| `get_answer` | Read an individual AI answer. |
| `create_topic` | Create a topic to organize prompts. |
| `create_prompts` | Add prompts to track. |
| `generate_prompts` | Generate prompt suggestions. |
| `move_prompts` | Move prompts between topics. |
| `add_keywords_to_topic` | Add keywords to a topic. |
| `remove_keywords_from_topic` | Remove keywords from a topic. |
| `update_keywords_for_topic` | Replace a topic's complete keyword list. |
| `update_prompts_keywords` | Update keywords across selected prompts, replacing each prompt's full keyword list. |

| `create_tag` | Create a tag. |
| `apply_tag_to_prompts` | Tag selected prompts. |
| `remove_tag_from_prompts` | Remove a tag from selected prompts. |

## Citations

| Tool | What it does |
| - | - |
| `list_domains` | Explore domains cited in AI answers. |
| `list_pages` | Explore individual cited pages. |

## Library and sitemap sync

| Tool | What it does |
| - | - |
| `list_library_content` | Browse content in Library. |
| `get_library_content` | Read a Library item's content. |
| `check_content_coverage` | Compare up to 20 article ideas with existing content. |
| `sync_library_from_sitemap` | Sync pages from your sitemap into Library. |

For coverage checks, “topics” means article ideas, not the saved Topics used to organize tracked prompts.

After publishing outside Gauge, ask your client to sync Library from your sitemap. The sync uses your organization's website by default, or accepts a sitemap or site URL. It runs in the background, adds new pages, and matches drafts to live URLs while skipping archived folders. It does not edit your website's sitemap. Publishing through Gauge already adds the live page to Library. See [Sitemap Import](/help/sitemap-import.md#refresh-from-ask-gauge-or-mcp).

## Content creation and publishing

| Tool | What it does |
| - | - |
| `create_content_artifact` | Start a content workflow. |
| `update_brief` | Update the content brief. |
| `research_topics` | Research subjects for the article. |
| `update_research_context` | Update the research context used for content generation. |
| `generate_outline` | Generate an article outline. |
| `update_outline` | Update the outline. |
| `write_article` | Generate the article. |
| `edit_article` | Edit an existing article. |
| `review_article` | Review the article. |
| `get_content_status` | Check background generation status. |
| `list_cms_fields` | Inspect fields in a connected CMS. |
| `publish_article_draft` | Send an article to a CMS as a draft or to staging, where supported. |
| `publish_article_live` | Publish an article live through a connected CMS. |

Review the brief and outline before generating an article. Generation runs in the background; your client can check status and read the completed content from Library.

CMS field discovery and publishing require a connected **Webflow, Framer, or Sanity** account. Specify the destination and ask explicitly for live publication when intended. Sanity publishes into Content Lake; your site's deployment setup determines when it becomes visible. See [CMS Integrations](/help/cms-integrations.md).

## Images

| Tool | What it does |
| - | - |
| `list_uploaded_images` | Browse previously uploaded images. |
| `get_image_url` | Resolve an existing image, web URL, or base64 image to a permanent public URL. |
| `prepare_image_upload` | Prepare an upload URL for a local image file. |

After uploading a local file, use `get_image_url` with its image ID to finalize it. Uploading and resolving images can make them publicly accessible.

## AI traffic

These tools use connected AI traffic data. Organizations without a connected log source receive empty results. See [AI Traffic](/agents/guides/agent-traffic.md).
