# Scheduled prompts

> Ask Gauge to run a task on a schedule and deliver the results to Slack or email.

A scheduled prompt runs an Ask Gauge task for you on a recurring schedule, such as a report every Monday morning. Each run works in the background with the same tools as a normal chat, and can send its results to Slack or email.

The easiest way to set one up is to ask [Ask Gauge](/navigating/ask-gauge).

## Set up a schedule in Ask Gauge

Describe the task, when it should run, and where the results should go:

> Every Monday at 9am Pacific, run /monday-morning-report and post it to #marketing in Slack.

Ask Gauge writes the prompt, creates the schedule, and confirms the name, prompt, and timing. If the timing or the deliverable is unclear, it asks first.

Ask Gauge then offers to run the schedule once now as a test. Open the run link to watch it work.

<Tip>
  A scheduled run doesn't see your chat. Ask Gauge writes the prompt so it stands alone, with the market, competitors, date range, output format, and destination. Check those details in its confirmation.
</Tip>

You can also ask Ask Gauge to list your schedules or run one now.

## Use a skill on a schedule

For work you repeat, first save the process as a [skill](/navigating/skills), then schedule it. The skill holds *how* to do the work. The schedule holds *when* it runs and *where* the result goes.

> Help me create a skill for our weekly competitor review, then schedule it for Fridays at 4pm.

## Send results to Slack or email

Tell Ask Gauge where to deliver the result in the prompt. A run doesn't post anywhere by default.

* **Slack:** Gauge can post to your alert channel, to any channel the Gauge app belongs to, or to a direct message with a member of your organization. [Connect Slack](/help/slack-integration) first, and invite **@Gauge** to the channel.
* **Email:** Scheduled runs can email members of your Gauge organization. Put their addresses in the prompt. Gauge doesn't email people outside your organization.

Each run can send up to 5 Slack messages and 5 emails.

## Chain work across schedules

Schedules can move bigger work forward in stages. For example, set up three skills, each on its own daily schedule:

1. **Find opportunities.** Review competitor activity and your Gauge data, then add action items to the [Action Center](/navigating/action-center).
2. **Write the content.** Pick up an eligible action item and work it into a draft.
3. **Keep the team informed.** Post a Slack summary of new opportunities, finished drafts, and anything that needs attention.

The schedules don't trigger each other. They share work through the action items and drafts saved in Gauge, so each skill should say what to pick up and what to leave for the next stage. Drafts stay in Gauge for your review; nothing is published automatically.

## Manage schedules

Your schedules are personal. Teammates don't see or edit them. You can have up to 25.

To change a schedule, ask Ask Gauge or open **Settings → Scheduled**. There you can see each schedule's last and next run, edit it, turn it off, or delete it. Open a run to see what it did.

To create one without chat, click the **Scheduled prompts** icon on the Ask Gauge home screen and choose **Schedule a prompt**, or click **Schedule** on a skill. The form has:

* **Skill:** optional. The run starts with this skill, like typing `/skill` in chat.
* **Prompt:** the task, including where to send the result.
* **Market:** shown when your organization tracks more than one market.
* **Repeat:** daily, weekdays, weekly, or monthly (days 1–28), with a time and timezone.

<Note>
  Each run counts toward your organization's chat message limit.
