# Ads Monitoring

> See your paid advertising across ChatGPT, Meta, and Google in one place, and correlate spend with the AI answers where your ads actually surface.

## Ads Monitoring

Paid advertising no longer lives only in search engines and social feeds — it increasingly runs inside AI assistants too. Ads Monitoring brings your advertising data together across ChatGPT/OpenAI, Meta, and Google so you can see what you're spending, where it's showing up, and how it connects to the AI answers Gauge already tracks for your brand.

Connect the ad accounts you run, and Gauge pulls in your campaigns, ad groups, creatives, and performance metrics — then lines them up against the prompts and answers being monitored across your category.

<Note>
  This page gives you the cross-platform overview. For a deep dive on ads observed inside ChatGPT specifically — including competitor ad tracking and ad-level prompt matching — see [ChatGPT Ads](/navigating/chatgpt-ads).
</Note>

## What You Can Track

### ChatGPT / OpenAI

Gauge observes sponsored ads that appear in ChatGPT answers for the prompts you track, broken out three ways:

* **Brands** — every advertiser running ads against your monitored prompts, with **Appearances** (how many times their ads showed up) and **Ads** (the number of distinct creatives).
* **Ads** — individual creatives with their **Appearances** and the number of **Prompts** each one has been found running against.
* **Your Campaigns** — if you connect an OpenAI Ads key, Gauge pulls in your own ChatGPT campaigns, ad groups, and ads. You'll see **Budget**, **Spend**, **Impressions**, **Clicks**, **CTR**, and **CPC**, alongside **Appearances** so you can tie campaign spend to the answers where your ads actually surfaced.

Individual ads that Gauge matches to observed placements are flagged as **Matched** with an appearance count; ads that haven't been seen in monitored answers show as **Not observed**.

### Meta

Once your Meta account is connected, Gauge can query the Meta Marketing API for your ad accounts and pull insights at the account, campaign, or ad set level. Reported fields include **spend**, **impressions**, **clicks**, **CTR**, **CPC**, conversion actions, and **purchase ROAS** over the date range you choose.

### Google

For connected Google Ads accounts, Gauge reports live performance directly from the Google Ads API. You can pull an account summary and run campaign, ad group, keyword, and search term reports covering **impressions**, **clicks**, **cost**, **conversions**, **conversion value**, **CTR**, **average CPC**, **cost per conversion**, and **ROAS**.

<Tip>
  Google Ads reporting runs at the client account level. If you connect a manager (MCC) account, point reports at a specific non-manager client account to return metrics.

## Connecting Your Ad Accounts

Ad data appears once the relevant account is connected under **Settings > Integrations**:

* **OpenAI Ads** — add your OpenAI Ads API key to unlock the **Your Campaigns** view. After connecting, Gauge runs an initial sync, and campaign data populates automatically once it completes.
* **Meta** — authorize Gauge through Meta's OAuth flow to grant access to your ad accounts.
* **Google Ads** — connect your Google Ads account (a client account, not a manager account, for direct metrics).

Until an account is connected, Gauge still shows the competitor and brand-level ad activity it observes in ChatGPT answers — connecting your own accounts simply layers your first-party spend and performance on top.

## Why It Matters

Most advertising tools stop at impressions and clicks. Ads Monitoring adds the missing layer: whether your paid dollars are actually influencing the AI answers customers now rely on. By putting ChatGPT, Meta, and Google spend next to the prompts and citations Gauge tracks, you can see where paid placement is winning visibility you don't already have organically, spot competitors buying their way into your category, and decide where the next dollar is best spent. Pair it with [AI Traffic](/navigating/ai-traffic) to follow that visibility all the way through to the visits it drives.
