> ## Agent Instructions
> For API and SDK launches, integration testing, and ongoing coding-agent checks, start with Gauge Agents:
> - [Gauge Agents overview](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/index.md)
> - [Gauge Agents quickstart](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/quickstart.md)
> - [Create and inspect an eval](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/guides/create-an-eval-and-run-an-experiment.md)

> - [Agent Preference: measure product selection](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/concepts/agent-preference.md)
> - [GitHub PR checks](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/guides/github-pr-checks.md)
> For AI search visibility and AEO, start with [Gauge Chat](https://docs.withgauge.com/introduction/welcome.md).

# Gauge MCP

> One MCP server for Gauge Chat and Gauge Agents: what it does, how to connect with OAuth or an API key, and the tool list.

Gauge runs one [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io) server for both products. Connect an AI client such as Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, or Codex, and it can work with your Gauge data directly.

| Product | What your client can do |
| - | - |
| Gauge Chat | Analyze AI visibility and citations, manage topics and prompts, create and publish content, and work the Action Center |
| Gauge Agents | Review evals, preference prompts, and agent sessions; read run analysis and reports; launch saved evals |

The server URL is the same for every client. It supports Streamable HTTP and SSE.

```text theme={null}
https://app.withgauge.com/mcp
```

## Authenticate

| Method | Acts as | Use it for |
| - | - | - |
| OAuth | You, in the organization you approve | Interactive clients. This is the default and needs no key. |
| API key | The key's organization, with no user | Unattended automation, and clients that don't support OAuth |

### Connect with OAuth

**1. Open the MCP integration**

In [Gauge](https://app.withgauge.com), go to **Settings → Integrations → MCP** and select your client.

**2. Add Gauge to your client**

Follow the client-specific instructions and copy the install command or connector URL. For other MCP-compatible clients, use the server URL above.

**3. Authorize access**

Your client opens Gauge in the browser. Select the organization you want to connect and approve access.

### Connect with an API key

Create an organization API key in Gauge Chat under **Settings → Integrations → API Keys**, then configure your client with the server URL and this header:

```text theme={null}
Authorization: Bearer gauge_sk_...
```

For example, in Claude Code:

```bash theme={null}
claude mcp add --transport http gauge https://app.withgauge.com/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer $GAUGE_API_TOKEN"
```

A **Read only** key exposes only the tools that read data, and the server refuses write calls. Use a **Read & write** key for tools that create content, change prompts, or launch runs. Revoke the key to disconnect every client using it. See [Authenticate with the API](https://docs.withgauge.com/chat/api/authentication.md) for access levels and revoking.

## What to ask

Once connected, ask your client in plain language. For example:

* "How did our visibility in ChatGPT change over the last 30 days, and which competitors gained?"
* "Add these five prompts to the Pricing topic."
* "Why did the latest run of the onboarding eval fail? Show the evidence."
* "Compare the last two batches of the SDK install eval."

Available Gauge Chat tools depend on your organization's connected integrations, such as Google Search Console, PostHog, or a CMS. Launching a saved eval or preference prompt starts agent sessions, which use [Gauge Agents credits](https://docs.withgauge.com/agents/guides/billing.md).
